Gossip Girl Star’s Heartbreaking Plea To Obama To Bring Her Children Home From Overseas
Gossip Girl star Kelly Rutherford has made an urgent plea to Barack Obama to help bring her children home after being in a custody dispute since before their daughter was even born.
According to Buzzfeed, the children's father, Daniel Giersch, got a Californian court's permission to take the couple's son and daughter to France and Giersch claimed he couldn't re-enter the U.S. due to visa issues. Rutherford claims her ex has had their kids declared 'habitual residents' of Monaco.
"The children’s appointed counsel said they should remain in the U.S., but the judge sent the children to France," the petition reads. "Solely because the father claimed he could not return to the U.S., even though NO evidence has been produced from any American official stating that the father was EVER denied entry into the U.S., and the father refused to request a visa."
Hermes, 8, and Helena, 5, are currently living with their father, who Rutherford says has no interest in co-parenting or doing the 'right thing' by their kids.
According to Buzzfeed, Rutherford has used her profile to recruit the help of some important friends in raising awareness to her situation by signing a petition.
At last check, the petition had almost 105,000 signatures, including that of Gossip Girl co-stars Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass) and her on-screen husband, Matthew Settle (Rufus Humphrey).
Even Kim Kardashian, who has never met Rutherford has jumped onto the cause, tweeting out to her followers for help.
Rutherford has even appealed to Barack Obama for help with her children's constitutional rights as Americans via a video with TMZ.
