Oprah Winfrey Releases Cookbook But Postpones Memoir

Oprah Winfrey is releasing her first cookbook instead of the planned memoir which has been postponed.

The chat show queen, who has publicly struggled with her weight over the years, is launching her own imprint with a book titled Food, Health and Happiness: 'On Point' Recipes for Great Meals and a Better Life.

Winfrey's imprint, currently untitled, is part of Flatiron, a division of the MacMillan U.S. publishing company. It's anticipated the book will be released in early January next year.

"In the past several months on Weight Watchers, I have worked with wonderful chefs to make healthier versions of my favourite meals," Winfrey said in a statement on Wednesday, to the Associated Press. "When people come to my house for lunch or dinner, the number one thing they ask is, 'How is this so delicious and still healthy?' So I decided to answer that question with recipes everyone can enjoy."

Winfrey announced her imprint last year and said at the time that she had planned to release a memoir, with the title, The Life You Want. However, it is understood that the memoir has been postponed to an as yet undetermined date, though the imprint is expected to release several non-fiction publications per year, all of which are to be selected by the 62-year-old.

The cookbook isn't entirely Winfrey's first foray into the gastronomic world, as her personal chef, Rosie Daley, published In the Kitchen with Rosie: Oprah's Favourite Recipes in 1994. Winfrey contributed an introduction to The Oprah Magazine Cookbook, which was released in 1998.

She has also co-authored several books and regularly contributes to her popular monthly publication O, The Oprah Magazine
