Confirmed: Legendary Rocker Tom Petty Has Died Aged 66

It’s been confirmed that legendary musician Tom Petty has died.

The news was confirmed by his long-time manager and family spokesperson, Tony Dimitriades.

“On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader, and friend Tom Petty,” he said in a statement.


“He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends — Tony Dimitriades, longtime manager of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on behalf of the family.”

According to TMZ, the 66-year-old rocker was rushed to hospital and put on life support after being found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home.

They also reported that emergency crews were unable to find a pulse and he was showing no signs of brain activity after arriving at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital.

A short time later, the decision was made by loved ones to switch off his life support.
