'Mary Queen Of Scots' Trailer Drops, As Have Our Goddam Jaws
The official trailer to Mary Queen Of Scots has dropped and, not even gonna sugarcoat it, it looks straight-up GLORIOUS.
The basic story is this: Mary Stuart of Scotland (Saorise Ronan) sets her eyes on her English cousin Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie) to stake her claim on the English throne.
The full synopsis reads:
Mary Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Ronan). Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I (Robbie). Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.
What struck us, was exactly how deep Aussie actress Margot Robbie gets into the wigs, heavy powder and, and, and, that forehead, to play Elizabeth I. It’s about has far from the come-hither smokeshow of Naomi in Wolf Of Wall Street.
While Robbie is unrecognisable, it’s the normally low-key Saorise Ronan, who plays Mary, who is really going to make audiences sit up and listen. Her performance in the trailer alone is nothing short of arresting.
This is gonna be one helluva catfight.
