Fifty Year Old Inmate Escapes Sydney Prison

A prisoner has escaped from a Sydney correctional facility this morning.

David Mellis, 50, was reported missing from a minimum security area within the complex on Anzac Parade shortly after 11.30am today.

During a routine head check, authorities detected his absence and the local police command were then notified.

A search is still underway for the man who was doing maintenance work on the prison complex when he escaped.

David Mellis is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 170 to 175cm tall, of medium build, with grey hair and brown eyes.


He was last seen wearing a high-visibility vest and prison greens and is known to frequent the Glebe area.

Anyone who sees the man or who knows of his whereabouts should contact Triple Zero immediately.
