Google Wants To Bring You Free Wi-Fi
Google is rolling out free Wi-Fi hotspots in New York, transforming their 10,000 phone booths into "Wi-Fi Pylons".
The trial will take place in Chelsea in New York City where Google's local headquarters are located and they hope to eventually spread this initiative across the world.
The converted phone booths in the city will provide mobile phone charging, free domestic phone calls and a touch screen information hub about the city and public transport.
They will be rolled out later this year, and they should give people in public housing in Chelsea and the meat-packing district access to internet.
Google Wi-Fi has impressive speeds of its own, at about 5 to 10 Megabits per second, which is equivalent to the average home connection.
