The Most Common Passwords For 2015 Revealed!

The most popular passwords of 2015 have been revealed, and a high number of people continue to risk their internet security with these easy-to-guess passwords.

Splashdata has compiled the list from more than two million leaked passwords, and the two most popular passwords haven't changed since 2011.

The password "123456" is the most popular, followed by the inimitable "password".

"Football", "welcome", "login" and "abc123" were on the list of the 25 most popular passwords.

There were some newcomers to the list this year, including "starwars" and "solo", to coincide with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Some other favourites are "dragon", "monkey" and "letmein".

According to Matthew Warren, professor of information security at Deakin University, the top of the list has barely changed over the last 30+ years.

"Historically, since the 80s, the top passwords have been very similar," he said.

"It shows how users haven't learnt from history, or their experiences."

He also said children aren't made aware of the risks to information security while they're in school.

"Children aren't taught at schools about choosing secure passwords, and you have to visit government websites to get the information," he said.
