Two Cups Of Coffee A Day Can Halve The Risk Of Breast Cancer
A new study has found that two cups of coffee a day can halve the risk of breast cancer returning for women recovering from the disease.
Apparently coffee stops the growth of tumours in women who have been treated with the drug tamoxifen. Tamoxifen is the main hormonal therapy drug given to women who haven't already gone through menopause. It is also taken after a woman has been treated for breast cancer. Tamoxifen blocks estrogen from cancers cells which is required for it to grow.
So ultimately tamoxifen stops cancers from growing or slows it down.
Researchers looked at 1,090 breast cancer patients and found that 500 women who had been treated with tamoxifen and also consumed at least 2 cups of coffee a day, had half the risk of their cancer returning compared to those who didn't drink coffee.
Upon further research they found that the caffeine in coffee stopped cancer cells from dividing and spreading quickly. Instead they were dying more often.
