The last 8 months have been a rollercoaster for the Potts family, to say the least.

It’s after Canberra’s warrior princess, Annabelle Potts, was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour in December 2016.

She’s been receiving treatment in Mexico for the last couple of months, thanks to money raised from the generous local community.

Now, after getting some good news from the doctor, the Potts family is preparing to come home!

“Last Monday, Annabelle completed her MRI, 4th intra-arterial treatment and 3rd immunotherapy. The doctors confirmed that since her last treatment, there’s a small amount of tumour shrinkage and less enhancement again,” Annabelle’s mum, Kathie, said.

“We are so excited and happy to be coming home in September to our wonderful family, friends and community!”

Annabelle is mostly symptom free, so the doctors have agreed she can stretch out her Intra-Arterial treatments to every 6 weeks instead of every 2-3 weeks.

Rather than living in Mexico, Kathie or Annabelle’s dad, Adam, will travel over for each treatment.

In the meantime, Kathie and Adam will go back to work and organise more fundraising, as funds to pay for the expensive treatment are running low.

Now the immunotherapy is finished, treatments will cost $23,000 each instead of $45,000.

“If the tumour grows or progresses at any stage, we will need to come back for intense treatment again, but the doctors are convinced that the tumour is stable for now and this treatment will help keep it that way,” Kathie said.

“We just need to find a cure or a treatment in Australia. I am worried that maintaining this in the long run will be very difficult financially.”

While there’s still a long and tough road ahead, Annabelle’s parents are feeling hopeful.

“I see a future for Annabelle now. I can see her going to preschool and kindergarten,” Kathie said.

“Thank you all SO much for your incredible support and generosity. We would not have come this far without your help.”

Let’s make sure this beautiful family can keep getting Annabelle the treatment she needs!
