Tom Petty is not the first and he won’t be the last celebrity wrongly reported as having passed away.

The US rocker is reportedly clinging to life in a southern California hospital after conflicting reports that he had died.

Several news outlets had reported the 66-year-old had passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest.

But the LAPD later said on Twitter it had “no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty. Initial information was inadvertently provided to some media sources.”

It’s understood, Petty is still on life support, but isn’t expected to last the day.

It’s not the first time a celebrity has wrongly been reported as having passed away.

Remember that time in 2009 when TODAY’s Richard Wilkins told everyone Jeff Goldblum had died?

He still cops flack for that!

In 2001, a radio station in Dallas wrongly reported Britney Spears had died in a car crash with a pretzel van.

In 2016, Sylvester Stallone was declared dead by a post that went viral on Facebook. He too, is still very much alive!

Miley Cyrus has also fallen victim to more than one online death hoax!

They are just some in a long list of celebs who’ve “died.”

Nevertheless, our thoughts are very much with Tom Petty and his loved ones.
