Canberra horse Single Gaze is going from strength to strength, with preparations now underway for the race that stops the nation.
The locally-trained mare defied the odds when she came second at Saturday’s Caulfield Cup.
Trainer Nick Olive said she pulled up really well after her first shot at 2400m, and is now set to take her place in the Melbourne Cup on November 7.
Single Gaze will be ridden by jockey Kathy O’Hara, who was suspended for 10 meetings for causing interference in the 400m at the Caulfield Cup.
But the pair, who have a great relationship, will take to the track together for the big race next month.
Single Gaze will have a pretty easy week before getting stuck back into her normal routine.
The mare’s winnings have now topped the $2 million mark, with her first victory in 2014, when she won an Open 2 at Rosehill at 80-1.
We wish Kathy and Single Gaze all the best for the Melbourne Cup!
