If you thought last week was hot, looks like that was just the entrée to what the weather gods are serving up this week!

A severe heatwave is expected to hit Canberra over the next three days.

“Today and tomorrow are looking the hottest for the week. We’re expecting around 35 today and warming up further tomorrow, so we could see the high thirties possibly touching around 39 degrees tomorrow,” Tom Hough from Weatherzone said.

“That will then cool as we go into the middle to the end of the week. So probably dropping to around 25 degrees on Thursday.”

Looks like we’re not far behind other parts of the country which are expecting scorchers too.

“Around the Sydney area we’re looking at the hottest day being tomorrow, out west we’ll see temperatures around the 40 degree mark, possibly 41 degrees,” Mr Hough said.

The big question on everyone’s minds – what’s the weather looking like in the capital for Christmas Day?

“We could see temperatures around 35 or 36 degrees on Christmas Eve, however we will see temperatures drop off on Christmas Day itself at this stage, looking to be back down around 25, 26 degrees on Christmas Day itself,” Mr Hough said.

A few showers are also expected on Christmas Day.
