ACT Police are reminding Canberrans to lock their cars and houses, following a string of thefts in Fadden.

In the early hours on Monday April 16, a home in Appel Crescent was burgled while people slept inside.

The front gate and door had both been left unlocked.

On the same morning, four cars in Appel Crescent and another car in Maughan Crescent were broken into, after most of them had also been left unlocked.

Station Sergeant Greg O’Ryan said car and home security should never be taken for granted.

“While theft from motor vehicles is an opportunistic crime, these thefts suggest offenders are actively looking for easy targets,” Station Sergeant O’Ryan said.

“Whoever committed these crimes was quite brazen in entering a home while people were sleeping inside, and in stealing from vehicles in a carport. This underlines the importance of locking vehicles and premises overnight.”

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the Fadden area in the early hours of Monday morning is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
