Unicorns and sausage dogs are super trendy at the moment.

In a stroke of pure genius, Jessica Halliwell decided to capitalise on this by combining the two!

She entered her 3.5 month old mini dachshund “Pippa” into the ‘Dapper Dachshund’ contest at the Bungendore Show.

A range of pups turned up in various fancy dress, but it was Pippa and her unicorn get-up that scored her first place!

“I couldn’t find any costumes small enough, so this was a hand puppet I found and I tried to be creative and turned it into a little costume,” Pippa’s owner Jess said.

“There were awards for funniest costume, won by the sausage costume, and most creative, won by Indiana Bones and Pippa the unicorn won overall best dressed!”

The Dachshund Races were also a hit, but they weren’t Pippa’s forte.

“I entered her into the puppy race, but she got very distracted in that and got like a whole 30cm down the track,” Jess said.

Over 100 dachies and their parents attended, with people coming from all over to see these little pocket rockets run!

There were eight heats in the morning culminating in the Layla Cup, won by Lenny.

And there were eight heats in the afternoon, with the Peanut Gift won by Schnitzel!

Overall, the Bungendore Show was a huge success, with around 5,300 people through the gates!

“Kids love to see dogs dressed up and parents love to bring their kids out and it’s a hands on experience. You get to meet dogs, you get to experience agriculture as a whole throughout the show, so you see horses, dogs, sheep, cattle,” Vice President of the Show Society, Ashley Meyer-Dilley said.
