The local political community’s in shock with the passing of ACT Labor backbencher Jayson Hinder.

It’s understood, the 51-year-old lawyer was killed in a motorbike crash in Canada.

The ACT Chief Minister has released a statement, detailing how he was a great friend to many Canberrans and a strong advocate for the people of Ginninderra.

“He was passionate about delivering for the people he represented, and he was a powerful voice around the caucus table for services and infrastructure in the north of Canberra,” Andrew Barr said.

The Chief Minister said Mr Hinder spent most of his life helping others and raising money for community causes.

“He was an active member of many Canberra sporting and community groups – he was often seen strapping on the tape to play local rugby and he was an avid supporter of the Brumbies,” he said.

“His contribution to the Canberra community will be sorely missed by many.”
