Another sports star has opened up about their battle with mental health.
Wayne Schwass, who played for the Sydney Swans and North Melbourne, went public about his battle with depression in 2006 after ignoring it for several years.
It nearly pushed him to take his own life.
But he has since found the strength and bravery to speak openly about his challenges, to try to help others and remove the negative stigma around mental illness.
Wayne Schwass shared his experience on the Kristen and Wilko show this morning as part of World Mental Health Day, and it’s a must-listen..
“The reason why men think suicide if their only option is because they believe it’s weak to ask for help,” Wayne said.
“If there’s anyone listening male or female that thinks that way, don’t. Because we need and we’re entitled to ask for help, and when we ask for help more importantly, we begin the process of getting healthy and happy again.”
