The Women of Spirit Awards Luncheon continues to go from strength to strength. With a record number of Canberrans attending this year's event at the National Gallery of Australia, to celebrate women who do incredible things.
16 finalists in total; including five in the Rising Women of Spirit category and 11 in the Women of Spirit category. Deborah Evans took out the 2017 Woman of Spirit and Natasha Maguire was recognised as the Rising Woman of Spirit.
It's after they were nominated by their peers following their work in the community, despite facing adversity in their lives.
Lifeline Canberra CEO Ms Carrie-Ann Leeson said it was humbling to be in the company of such incredible and inspirational women who give hope to their communities.
“Our community is full of everyday heroes, of individuals giving selflessly to leave others better than they find them. The Awards is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate them. It is also an opportunity to inspire others. There is no event like it.” said Ms Leeson.
“We are very proud to host this event, and are delighted to see how much it has grown in the past two years. Until recently these awards were an afternoon tea with a handful of attendees. Each year we're now challenged to find a bigger venue.”
The guests were also treated to a speech from Carol Butcher who shared her inspiring story
