An L-plater has copped several charges after recklessly driving a stolen car and threatening a bystander at knifepoint.

Police say on Easter Monday afternoon, a man stole a silver Hyundai Lantra and used it to do several burnouts along Crozier Circuit in Kambah.

Witnesses say the man was fishtailing when he lost control of the car and crashed into a retaining wall, before running off.

A bystander tried to speak to the driver before the culprit threatened them with a large hunting knife he pulled from his pocket.

Police eventually tracked the man down at a Kambah home later that day, where he was arrested.

He’s been charged with drive motor vehicle without consent, possess offensive weapon with intent, aggravated furious/reckless/dangerous driving and learner driver unaccompanied.
