Raiders fight to save Wighton’s season

The 2016 season of Canberra Raiders fullback Jack Wighton rests in the hands of the NRL Judiciary, with the club choosing to fight the grade 2 shoulder charge handed down by the Match Review Committee.

Wighton risks a four-match ban following his tackle on Wests Tigers reserve Joel Edwards on Sunday. The ban included a 20 percent loading, however had Wighton and the Raiders opted to take an early guilty plea then the fullback's season would essentially be over.

The decision from the committee has copped a serve on social media, with fans and journalists accusing the NRL of a double standard, after Cronulla Sharks hooker Michael Ennis was cleared of a shoulder charge on Saturday night.

  1. The club has said they will not comment any further until after the judiciary hearing.
