Tennis legend questions Kyrgios' twitter use

by Brent Ford

Australian tennis legend Pat Cash has taken a serve at Nick Kyrgios saying he needs to get off twitter to reach his full potential.

The former Wimbledon Champion thought the move could help Kyrgios win multiple Grand Slams. Kyrgios hit back at the suggestion with a tweet aimed at Cash.

"Haha 'ditch social media' - can people keep their opinions to themselves please. Leave me alone. This is my last tweet for you Cashy," Kyrgios wrote.

The comments from Cash follow recent comments by seven-time Grand Slam singles winner John Newcombe, who questioned Nick Kyrgios' fitness after his third round defeat in the French Open at the hands of Richard Gasquet.

Twitter has proved troublesome for Kyrgios in recent months. He had a dig at Davis Cup team mate Bernard Tomic, got in an argument with Adelaide Crows' captain Taylor Walker and even the Australian Olympic team boss Kitty Chiller couldn't avoid the firing line.

However Cash, who was a wild child himself in the early 1980's said that there should be no doubts about Kyrgios playing in the Olympics.

"I'm probably the only player on earth who can have an understanding of where he's at and what he's been through and what he's going through," Cash said.

"He needs to learn just to roll with it.

"It's amazing how he polarises so many people - that's the way he is, his personality, his character."
