Imagine you’re in the car with kids in the back – then a stranger jumps in and forces you to drive off with them in the car. Absolutely terrifying.

This happened in Jerrabomberra yesterday afternoon.

At 4pm, police spotted a 22-year-old wanted man driving a stolen car along Cooma Road in Queanbeyan.

When police approached, the driver sped off, prompting a pursuit into Jerrabomberra.

The car, that’d been stolen from Belconnen on October 17, crashed into a parked car near Jerrabomberra Hall.

The driver ran off, as did his 26-year-old passenger.

After a short foot chase, the passenger was arrested by police with the help of bystanders.

The 22-year-old jumped into the back of a parked car, which had a man and his two kids aged 9 and 7 inside.

The culprit forced the man to drive him a short distance away, where he jumped out and eluded police.

Luckily, the driver and his children weren’t hurt.

While the 26-year-old’s been charged, the 22-year-old is still on the run.

Investigations are ongoing.
