TOUGH NEW PENALTIES FOR USING PHONE WHILE DRIVING

A warning for Canberra drivers, if you use your phone while behind the wheel, you will be caught!
Tougher new penalties came in force on Thursday, where those caught face a $511 fine and four demerit points.
Road Safety Minister Shane Rattenbury said it comes off the back of some concerning research findings.
"13 per cent of drivers admit to using their mobile phones for something like Facebooking, or texting whilst driving, and 4 per cent admit to doing it all the time," he said.
National Road Safety Week founder Peter Frazer lost his daughter after she was hit and killed by a distracted driver, and said the consequences just aren't worth it.
"My family has been obviously living through a nightmare, because a distracted driver crashes in and kills my daughter in a very horrific way," he said.
"Now we have to live with that for the rest of our lives."
