It’s the snack food that always hits the spot.

Potato scallops, or as some may call them, potato cakes.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or anything in between – they always go down well!

But, where are the best places to get them from in the nation’s capital?

Most takeaway’s offer them, as do a number of cafes and restaurants.

In compiling this list, many factors were taken into consideration.

For instance, the salt to scallop ratio – you want that to be on point. Too much salt, or even worse, not enough salt, is a bit of a spoiler.

The crispy factor. You want your scallops to be golden and crunchy – not a soggy oily mess.

The filling. The potato on the inside needs to be fluffy and plentiful. The last thing you want is a scallop that’s all batter and little potato.

These are all important factors to consider when choosing the ultimate scallop.

We’ve compiled a list of the top five places in Canberra that have nailed it…

5 – Lachlan Court Café in Barton

4 – Catch Fish and Chips in Braddon

3 – Ainslie Takeaway

2 – Regal Charcoal Chicken in Charnwood

1 – Little Theo’s in Kambah

Honourable mentions also go to Ba Bronx in Forde, Bernie’s From The Bay in Charnwood, Mama Ria’s Takeaway in Kippax, Nicholls Takeaway & Pizza, Erindale Takeaway and Johno’s Takeaway and Pizza Bar in Mawson – just to name a few!
