British Man Who Gave Birth Opens Up On Difficult Pregnancy

Hayden Cross, 22, has opened up about the emotional and mental struggles that he endured while pregnant.

Cross is the first transgender man to give birth in Britain, after finding a sperm donor on Facebook.

The young man has now cautioned other transgender males about falling pregnant and giving birth due to the toll that it took.

Hayden, who was born a female named Paige, had been living legally as a man for three years before deciding to put his transition on hold to fulfill his desire to become a parent in 2016.

He fell pregnant before completing his transition - which includes the removal of his breasts and ovaries.

He made the decision to go through with pregnancy before his full transition after the NHS refused to freeze his eggs.

“It was really strange and there were a lot of emotions and a lot of feelings,” Cross told UK TV chat show Lorraine.

“I wouldn’t advise anyone to do it if I’m honest because it was really hard."

Opting for a c-section due to the added complexity and emotional toll that giving birth naturally would take, Hayden welcomed Trinity Leigh into the world in 2017.

The 22 year old credits the support from his family and friends during the time for helping him through.

"“I don’t think I was ready at the time, 100 percent but now everything’s just gone to plan, fell into place and getting on great," he continued to tell Lorraine.

“I am worried about how I will look and what people will think and say about me,” he said.

“There are a lot of small-minded people out there.

“I’m glad I’m doing it as I hope in inspires other people to be happy in themselves.”

Despite hoping be an inspiration and an example that it is possible, he was still plagued with the idea of being “judged” for being “trans and pregnant”.

Hayden has since continued on with his transition surgery.

“I’ve had my top surgery done already and can have my bottom surgery when I’m ready," he said.

A man from Arizona in the US, Thomas Beatie, was the first transgender man to give birth, after his wife had a hysterectomy several years earlier.

In similar circumstances, Beatie had begun hormone treatment but kept his female reproductive organs.

He and wife Nancy are now parents to three children.
