15 DEAD And 50 People INJURED In Barcelona Terror Attack

At least 13 people have died and more than 50 people have been left injured after a van mounted the pavement and ploughed into pedestrians in Barcelona’s historic Las Ramblas district.

Catalan police have confirmed they have arrested one man in relation to the crash, and the incident is being treated as a terror attack.

"Unfortunately the number of fatalities will likely rise," Catalonia's regional interior chief Joaquim Forn said during a news conference.

Media reports said the van had zigzagged at speed down the famous Las Ramblas avenue, a magnet for tourists.

Eyewitness Tom Gueller told the BBC "I immediately knew that it was a terrorist attack or something like that.

"It wasn't slowing down at all. It was just going straight through the middle of the crowds in the middle of the Ramblas."

Police have cornered off the popular street, ordered stores and nearby metro stations to close.

They asked people to stay away from the area so as not to get in the way of emergency services. A helicopter hovered over the scene.

One man has been arrested in connection with the attack and shot another.
