Aussie Man Dies After Jumping From Boat On Dream Holiday

A Brisbane man tragically died while on holiday in the Maldives after he misjudged a jump from a boat at night.

Justin Cullen travelled with 10 of his friends for a two-week surfing trip, and jumped off the top of the boat they hired, hitting his head and disappearing into the water for up to 40 minutes.

But by the time he was pulled up from the ocean, it was too late.

“I’m told by (his best friend) Cale that Justin was laughing when he jumped and his body was found with a smile on his face,” Corey told the Courier Mail.

The 24-year-old was completing a degree in urban construction at Queensland University of Technology, and worked for his father's construction business.

“This was a once-in-a-lifetime trip for my brother, he had worked so hard and had been so excited to go,” Corey told the Courier Mail.

“He had everything going for him, me and my brother said last week how successful he was. He was financially stable, fit and healthy, he never went off the rails.”

He was the middle child of three boys, and his older brother Corey, 25, told the Courier Mail that Justin was "the glue that kept us all together".

Justin only enjoyed eight days of the trip before it was cut short.

His body will arrive home this afternoon, and his funeral will take place tomorrow.
