We hope you’ve got your water refrigerated and ice blocks frozen Canberra!
The capital’s in for another scorcher today, with an expected top of 37 degrees.
According to Weatherzone, while extreme conditions like this are pretty normal in Canberra during January and February, there are some unusual aspects.
“We’ve actually had about 11 days now of above 30 degrees, so to have such a run of hot weather is more unusual,” Weatherzone meteorologist, Sam Kerry, said.
“One of the other factors that’s been unusual is humidity. It does feel a couple of degrees warmer with more humid air.”
The nights are expected to be pretty hot too.
“Overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday we’ll have a pretty warm night, only dropping to 22 degrees so that’s pretty sweaty, pretty uncomfortable conditions,” Mr Kerry said.
Temperatures should drop later in the week, though.
“There is a change expected to push along the New South Wales coast, that will cool things down there, but only affecting Canberra by about Thursday. So we should start to see temperatures drop off below 30 there so that will bring some relief,” Mr Kerry said.
“On Wednesday we will see some cloud increase but that won’t really affect the temperature much unfortunately. It’s not until the actual wind change comes through on the Thursday that we’ll start to feel a bit cooler.”
Canberrans might also get some relief when rain hits later this week, with showers expected on Thursday and Friday.
