Hayne In Line To Make NFL Debut For 49ers
Jarryd Hayne is in line to make his NFL debut for the San Francisco 49ers in their season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
The 49ers on Tuesday tweeted their seven inactive players for the match at Levi's Stadium, scheduled to begin at 12.20pm AEST - that included wide receiver DeAndrew White and running back Mike Davis.
Therefore, former Parramatta Eels NRL fullback Hayne will be part of the 46-man squad, and is in the frame with Reggie Bush, Bruce Ellington and Carlos Hyde to get a run as a punt returner, kick-off returner or running back.
"The Hayne Plane is all set for takeoff" trumpeted the statement on the San Francisco 49ers website.
In four pre-season games, Hayne led the 49ers with 175 rushing yards and averaged 18.1 yards per punt return on nine attempts.
It could be a baptism of fire for Hayne as a punt returner, with gusty, 20km/h winds forecast and rain possible during the game.
