Australia Day is just a few days away - and that means BBQ's, picnics, pool parties, fireworks and all sorts of Aussie shenanigans!

We've compiled a list of what's going on in Canberra to mark the big day...

AUSTRALIA DAY IN THE CAPITAL

Whether you’re a morning or night person, or want to celebrate right from dawn till dusk, there’ll be something for everyone at Australia Day in the Park! The day kicks off with The Great Aussie Day Breakfast, followed by kids entertainment, the National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony and an evening concert with fireworks.

Enjoy some Aussie tucker at the Breakfast on the lawns of Stage 88. To keep the family entertained, there’ll be songs from the Sing Australia choir, a jumping castle, mega Nerf Zone, face painting, glitter tattoos and more! You can also check out the National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony at Rond Terrace, where there’ll also be a spectacular flyover and 21-gun salute.

The family friendly concert at Regatta Point kicks off at 4pm, headlined by British India, with supporting performances by the Choir of Hard Knocks, Hands Like Houses and Young Monks. Then, wrap up your nights by checking out the impressive fireworks display from the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

AUSTRALIA DAY FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR

There’s nothing better than seeing our skies come to life with spectacular colourful fireworks! And what a great way to wrap up your Australia Day celebrations. Head to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin to check out the display from 9pm. But make sure you get there early to score a good possie! The best viewing points will be from Regatta Point, the National Library lawns, or Rond Terrace. Warm up your vocal chords too – the fireworks will be set to an Aussie soundtrack with some classic favourites!

AUSTRALIA DAY AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM

The National Museum of Australia has HEAPS on to celebrate Australia Day!

Family Festival: A world of history and culture

Between 10am – 2pm, dress up and celebrate history and the many cultures of Australia at the family festival, inspired by the “A History of the World in 100 Objects” exhibition. There’ll be historical battle enactments, falconry demonstrations, craft, games, entertainment and more! Charges apply to some activities.

Live music and games

Enjoy live music and free games as the sun sets on Australia Day. Bring a picnic or grab a pie and settle in for the fireworks at 9pm. There’ll be performances by the Franklyn B Paverty bush band, Dr Stovepipe and The Crossbones. And why not challenge your friends to a game of giant Jenga, Connect 4 or the Viking-inspired Kubb!

Cocktail party

Get the full VIP treatment this Australia Day at a cocktail party held at the Museum Bar! Enjoy great food, drinks and entertainment and watch the fireworks from the best lakeside view in town! The “A History of the World in 100 Objects from the British Museum” will also be open! Numbers are limited.
