Jarryd Hayne's 49ers Dream Comes True

Jarryd Hayne has made the San Francisco 49ers' 53-man roster, but the hardest, most competitive challenges are yet to come for the former NRL star.

Hayne faces plenty of competition from other 49ers players who made the roster.

Unlike the pre-season, the 49ers will likely go with experienced running backs Carlos Hyde, Reggie Bush and Kendall Hunter in regular season games.

As a punt and kick returner, Hayne will also compete with wide-receivers Bruce Ellington and DeAndrew White.

Pre-season games, of which Hayne played four and performed superbly, feature fringe players battling to make their squads so the holes and slower defenders he saw will be replaced with the NFL's best.

On September 14 when the 49ers open their NFL regular season against the Minnesota Vikings, the Vikings will have their best team at Levi's Stadium.

Hayne is ready for the challenge.

Hayne announced the news he made the 53-man squad via Twitter.

The 49ers followed up with the official word soon after.

"I'm on the 53 MAN ROSTER FOR THE #49ers," Hayne jubilantly wrote.

Just months ago Hayne had to tuck a piece of paper with NFL plays into his pants because he struggled to retain the volumes of plays and terminology most players learn growing up playing American football in high school and college in the US.

On Saturday he learned he survived when 37 other NFL players, many veterans or star college recruits, had been cut from the 49ers.

One of the surprise cuts was linebacker Nick Moody, who Hayne had praised during workouts for his strength and power.

Running back Kendall Gaskins and back-up quarterback Dylan Thompson were also among the 14 cut.

"IT ALWAYS WORKS OUT!" Hayne tweeted.

"I thank GOD for WHAT HE has done and going to do on this incredible journey!!"

Hayne was a sensation in the pre-season, topping or near the top in running back and punt return statistics for all NFL players.
