Maria Sharapova Just Got Dropped By A MAJOR Brand
Today, Maria Sharapova lived through what no sportsman would ever want to experience: a failed drug test.
Speaking at a press conference in Los Angeles today, the former world number one announced she failed a doping test at the Australian Open, saying a change in the World-Anti-Doping Agency banned list led to the violation.
Sharapova said she tested positive for Meldonium, a substance she had been taking since 2006 but one that was added to the banned list this year.
Now, as if she hasn’t been through enough, her major sponsor, Nike, have decided to drop her - and her $70M contract.
Just HOURS after her announcement, the brand announced it had ‘suspended their relationship’ with the tennis champ.
