Mitchell Pearce Gets Hefty Fine, Extended Stint On Sidelines
The NRL integrity unit has revealed Mitchell Pearce's final punishment ahead of the 2016 season, after the Roosters player returned to Australia this week.
After 48 hours of negotiations, the sporting body has handed Pearce an eight week suspension, as well as a $125,000 fine.
Allegedly $50,000 of the fine will be suspended, pending good behaviour.
Pearce will not be eligible to play for the Roosters until at least the April 30 clash against the Knights at Allianz Stadium.
However, the footballer will still be allowed to train alongside his teammates for the remainder of his suspension.
Pearce's ban came about after a video of the 26-year-old went viral over the Australia Day weekend.
The video showed Pearce simulating lewd sexual acts on a dog and general drunken behaviour.
The Roosters' halfback was forced to spend time in a rehabilitation clinic after the video surfaced and only recently returned to Australia.
