NEARLY 500 DRIVING OFFENCES IN 11 DAYS – POOR FORM CANBERRA!

ACT Police have dished out nearly 500 fines and warnings to Canberra drivers so far this year.

Several of those have been for high range speeding, with one driver clocked at 98km/h over the limit on Belconnen Way in Macquarie.

Acting Officer in Charge of Traffic, Station Sergeant Ken Hedges, said the number of drivers caught doing the wrong thing isn’t good enough.

“These high range speeders all local Canberra drivers putting themselves and members of their own community at risk,” Sergeant Hedges said.

“They show a complete disregard for the road rules and take zero responsibility for road safety.”

Police also busted Canberrans driving while uninsured, using a mobile phone, doing illegal U-turns and negligent driving.

Alarmingly, in one case, a driver was caught with an unrestrained toddler in the car.

“This type of behaviour is reckless as it can have such disastrous consequences. Think of your own friends and family and how you feel about putting them at risk,” Sergeant Hedges said.
