Passengers Describe Terrifying Moment Smoke Fills Plane

Passengers have described hearing “scraping and grating” noises as they were forced to wrap clothes around their face to avoid smoke inhalation on a Jetstar flight on Thursday.

The plane was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Brisbane, after smoke filled the cabin just 40 minutes into the journey.

The flight left Sydney at 4pm en route to Cairns, with passengers ushered off the plane just before 6pm according to News Corp reports.

Footage shows smoke filling the cabin along with lights flickering as crew inspect lockers.

It’s believed the plane’s engine was turned off to try and stop the smoke.
