Physicist Stephen Hawking Dies Aged 76
Physicist Stephen Hawking has passed away aged 76.
Hawking was largely known for his ground-breaking work with relativity and black holes. He was also the author of A Brief History of Time amongst many other popular science books.
A statement released by his children Lucy, Robert and Tim stated: "We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today."
"He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years."
"His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world."
"He once said, 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.' We will miss him for ever."
Hawking was diagnosed with a rare early-onset slow-progressing form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ASL), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, at the age of 21. His life and achievements were featured in the film The Theory of Everything staring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones.
