Sally Pearson Withdraws From Commonwealth Games
Two-time gold medallist Sally Pearson has been forced to pull out of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast due to an achilles injury.
The hurdler made a statement to the media on Thursday afternoon, confirming she has to remove herself from the games.
"This has been an ongoing issue for a couple of years now," she told reporters on the Gold Coast.
"Obviously [I'm] very disappointed, but I'm very happy to be here to support the Australian team."
The Australian athletics team captain had already announced the news to her teammates that morning.
She had been avoiding racing over hurdles in recent warm ups, but had been participating in sprints.
Pearson still plans to compete at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
