Boy George Didn’t Want 'Do you Really Want To Hurt Me'
Here's a surprise Boy George says he didn't want to release the song that became his breakthrough hit.
The Culture Club frontman now a regular on the British edition of The Voice told viewers on the show Saturday night about he feared that "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" would kill his career. It wound up hitting number-two in the U.S. and number-one in Britain and here in Australia.
The flamboyant hitmaker relived his memory when a contestant performed the song. After complimenting Vangelis Polydorou's audition, George explained that the song "was really personal... It was about a relationship and I thought it was too slow... Little did I know that it was the beginning of my career, because when you put out songs that are honest and true, that’s when you really connect with people."
Not so surprising, Polydorous asked to work with Boy George as the series continues.
