Coming off the success of Mix106.3’s Canberra’s Biggest Barn Dance in 2018 raising over $25,000.00, Mix106.3 is bringing it back for 2019. Last year, drought conditions in QLD and NSW, gained a lot of media exposure, and became a hot-button topic, however now it’s fallen out of the media cycle, it’s important that we keep the kitty running for drought support in Australia.
Drought doesn’t just affect the farm itself. It’s such a bigger issue, affecting families, their livelihood and mental health and the communities they live in.
That’s why this year all proceeds will be going to Rural Aid! Founded in 2015, they have a number of programs designed with rebuilding and repairing in mind. These include the Farm Rescue and Farm Army programs seeing thousands of volunteers give their time to support rural communities, the Gift of Music bringing the joy of music to the bush and mental health counsellors helping reduce stress, domestic violence, suicide, and supporting overall mental health in rural communities.
In order to raise money for drought relief, The Wilko Show with Courts, would like to host Canberra’s Biggest Barn Dance 2019. They will be inviting Canberran’s to join them at Thoroughbred Park on Saturday 28th September between 3pm and 7pm for a fun day out with the family. There will be live music, dancing, activities, great food and so much more, with all proceeds going to farming families struggling with the effects of drought.
