There’s never a dull moment! Okay, we sound like Lady Crawley there, but we’re just a bit excited.

Downton Abbey is coming back for a sequel to its 2019 theatrical debut and it looks like we’re going to see it fairly soon.

The official Downton Abbey Twitter account confirmed the news in a tweet overnight, spruiking that the movie will be here by Christmas 2021.

The team behind the drama also confirmed that the whole cast will be back for the sequel.

“We’re thrilled to announce that Julian Fellowes and the entire Downton cast are back for #DowntonAbbey2, with Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West joining!”, the tweet read.

The movie follows on from the 2019 film which followed the characters as they prepared for a visit from England’s King and Queen.

The original series finished up in 2015 after 6 seasons. The movie sequel is set to be released on December 22, 2021, there’s no word yet on whether we’ll see a cinema-only release or whether the film will drop on streaming services at the same time.
