A popular brand of hot chili sauce is being recalled over fears that it could explode upon opening.

Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce 500mL (17oz) and 830mL (28oz) has been recalled with a best before date of March 2021.

The product has been available for sale at Coles, Woolworths, IGA’s, independent’s and Asian grocery stores nationally.

The recall is due to lactic acid build up causing certain bottles to “bloat” and continue to ferment.

The product may splatter on to property or persons on opening.

In a recall notice, it’s advised that people should not open bottles that feel “bloated”.

Customers should return the products to the place of purchase for a full cash refund.
