Christmas has come early for hundreds of Canberrans, waking to news of a ‘sizeable’ payment towards their Christmas lay-bys.

An anonymous woman got in touch with Toyworld’s Fyshwick store over the weekend, looking to give back after a tough year here in the Capital.

The store’s Managing Director, Peter MacLeod, said he was blown away by the offer.

“I was surprised.”

“She said there’s a lot of families out there doing it tough right now and she wanted to spread the joy and put some smiles back into Canberra households.”

The unspecified but ‘sizeable’ payment was spread evenly across the stores 178 lay-bys.

Something Mr MacLeod still can’t quite believe has happened.

“Being a local toy store in Canberra, we do a lot of our own events and charity work but this has got to be up there.”

“To have this sort of kindness and generosity spread across the Canberra community while also supporting a local business – It’s been amazing.”
