Santa is set to hit streets of the Nation’s Capital for the next two weeks, ‘tapping on’ to a big, bright and very festive Transport Canberra bus to help deliver some cheer to families in need this Christmas.

The big man in red has teamed up with Mix 106.3, Transport Canberra and Communities@Work for the ‘Pack the Bus’ initiative.

Now, he needs your help, to get ‘on board’ and donate gifts for Canberra kids as well as non-perishable food items.

The collected goods will then be offloaded to Communites@Work who will distribute the donations to those in need.

Over a two-week period from Monday 6 December, Santa and his helpers will make their way around the Territory to collect the donated goods from registered workplaces, retail outlets and schools every weekday.

The initiative aims to fill the bus, right to the top, with food and goodies.

However, Santa said, given the generosity of Canberrans, there’s no reason why he couldn’t fill the bus twice or even three times over.

Communities@Work Director of Social Programs and Volunteering, Ruth Zanker said the donation drive will help the charity to support hundreds of individuals and families in the region this festive season.

“You can’t underestimate the positive impact that generosity has on someone worried about how to make ends meet or how to tell their children they won’t have a gift this Christmas.”
