ACT Together Australia, is putting out the call to locals to step up. They’re in need of carers for babies, sibling groups, and teens that need assistance in navigating their way into adulthood.

ACT Together do amazing work every day connecting vulnerable kids to people who can provide them with a safe and happy home environment. Last year they found a loving home for baby Joseph*.

Joseph was born prematurely, weighing only 1.6 kilos, and his mum and dad relinquished care of him shortly after he was born. Joseph was assigned a crisis carer who visited him in hospital every day, and took him home when he was well enough to leave.

While Joseph spent time with his crisis carer, ACT Together searched for a relative who could care for Joseph in the long term. Eventually they found a family member, an aunt on his dad’s side named Kim*.

Kim’s world changed the day she found out her brother had a baby who needed her help, and she and her husband decided they would do whatever they could to become Joseph’s full time carers.

Joseph is now with Kim and her family, and above his bed he has a photo of his birth parents, his crisis carer, and her family.

Kim: “I point to them and say these are the people who made you, these are the people who cared for you, and we are the ones who are keeping you.”
