The ACT Government has moved to establish an additional public holiday in the Territory to mark ANZAC Day in 2021.
The change means Sunday 25 April will now also be declared an official public holiday in the Territory this year.
It comes after the Government moved the ANZAC Day holiday observation to Monday 26 April.
ACT Industrial Relations and Workplace Safety Minister, Mick Gentleman said the change is a win for retail, fast food and hospitality workers.
“Anzac Day is a significant day for many Canberrans and this will empower workers to attend commemorations and ceremonial events held on the Sunday.”
An additional public holiday on the same day as ANZAC Day will allow workers within those industries to observe and commemorate the significance of April 25th while allowing those who work on the day to access the appropriate remuneration.
