One person has died following a collision between two cars and truck along the Barton Highway near Kaleen on Wednesday.
Early investigations suggest the vehicles were turning right onto the Barton Highway from Gungahlin Drive at about 11:30am when a truck travelling north collided with the two vehicles.
The male driver of one of the cars was killed during the incident, the driver of the second vehicle became trapped in their car and was taken to hospital after being freed by emergency crews.
The driver of the truck was uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Detective Acting Superintendent Donna Hofmeier said The man’s death is the ninth fatality on ACT roads this year.
“Any fatality is one too many, whilst we acknowledge that we are in lockdown at the moment and there is less traffic on the road, that is no excuse for members of the public to obey traffic laws.”
Police have thanked bystanders at the scene who stopped to offer help.
The Barton Highway will remain closed over the coming hours as investigations are undertaken.
