Residents living throughout the Belconnen area are now able to book in for a free bulky waste pickup.
The expansion to the Bulky Waste program to Belconnen comes after successful trials in Gungahlin and Tuggeranong, with the Territory Government committing to implementing the program city-wide by 1 July this year.
Each household is entitled to one free collection per year, of up to two cubic metres, for a range of items including furniture, household appliances, white goods and electrical equipment.
City Services Minister, Chris Steel said the most recept expansion is a chance for locals to clear out and give back.
“If you did some tidying over the Easter break, now’s a great time to get rid of those household items you no longer need.
“Many items find new homes and make their way back into our community. Our partnerships with charities like GIVIT, The Salvation Army and Vinnies help ensure vulnerable Canberrans benefit from recycled items.
So far, more than 38 percent of goods picked up through the program have been able to be recycled, preventing them from ending up in landfill.
