ACT Policing is reminding Canberrans that Triple 0 is for emergencies, not for information on COVID-19 health directions.

Chief Officer Neil Gaughan said the phone line has received several non-urgent calls recently.

“Triple 0 is for emergencies. It’s not to see whether or not you can cross the border to buy bacon and eggs.”

Instead, information on COVID-19 health directions can be found on the ACT Health website.

It follows eight infringement notices handed out on Sunday for non-compliance, which is the highest number of COVID fines issued on a single day in the territory.

Mr Gaughan said six of those were from a residential construction site in Taylor.

“We will be doing substantial workplace compliance with Work Safe ACT in relation to construction sites across the territory to ensure that actually people adhere to the health directions and stay home.”

There is an $8000 fine for organisations that fail to comply with health directions and a $1000 for individuals.

Those who fail to wear a mask face a $200 fine.
