Roadside bulky waste collections are now available in every Canberra suburb after being rolled out city wide at the beginning of the month.
Residents in Woden, Weston, Molonglo, the inner-north and south area all now eligible, following successful trials in Tuggeranong, Gungahlin and Belconnen.
Since city-wide bookings opened in June, more than 400 Canberra households have registered for their free, once a year, pickup.
City Services Minister, Chris Steel said while the service is designed to save Canberrans a trip to the tip, it’s also assisting in the recycling of items that can still be used through various local charities.
“So far the service has achieved a 42 per cent resource recovery rate which is a fantastic result and more than four times the national average of 10 per cent.”
“It means that we’re diverting valuable metals, white goods and other items from going to landfill and giving some items a second life whilst providing a valuable service to the community.”
