The ACT Opposition wants to see a review into the pay and working conditions of Canberra’s teacher workforce.
Shadow Education Minister, Jeremy Hanson will move a motion in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, calling on the Government to refer the matter to the Fair Work Ombudsman.
Mr Hanson has made the call following a survey by the Australian Education Union which found 97% of respondents said they were working more than their weekly maximum hours.
“Almost all teachers report working unpaid over-time every week, with more than 40% of them working 10 or more hours, and even more hours when weekend work is included.”
“Of all the workers in the ACT system, the last who should be subject to these sorts of work practices are our teachers.”
