Gungahlin residents could seen be scootin’ around their town centre, if one local pollie gets his way.

Labor backbencher, Michael Petterson, will put forward a motion in the Legislative Assembly this week, calling on the Government to expand the use of e-scooters into the Gungahlin and Mitchell areas.

“We already know that the scheme has proved to be hugely popular. Having the e-scooters operating in our town centre and business districts will encourage more localised active travel and provide a boost to our local economies.”

“Importantly, I’ll also be calling for additional parking spaces for the e-scooters around our light rail stops, so that we can improve public transport connections.”

The Government has already committed to looking into possible expansion beyond the current sue of the scooters in Canberra’s North, South and Belconnen.

However, Mr Pettersson said he’s keen to see a commitment in his electorate of Yerrabi.

“I’ll be keenly waiting for the outcome of the Government’s review into the scheme and advocating for an expansion to Gungahlin as a high priority.”

A recent survey, backing his latest push, shows support for the scheme’s expansion was around 80 per cent among people living in Gungahlin.
